Anyone who has spent any time checking out our site knows that we’ve been on the Katie Bonham bandwagon from the moment we saw her first horror short Doll back in the day.

Well, Bonham has progressed very nicely since then thank you, rattling out further eye-catching shorts in the shape of The Porcelain Ground, Paper Round and, most recently, Mindless – which is still rolling around the festival circuit.

Never one to sit still for long Katie is now knee-deep in her latest, and on paper most ambitious project to date – Mab.

Here’s a press release that was nudged our way:

MAB is the next highly anticipated short film project by rising horror film director Katie Bonham (Mindless, The Paper Round). Shooting over three days on location in Kent and London, this will be Katie’s first collaboration with Director of Photography Sashi Kissoon (Stalled). Together, utilising a Red Dragon and Kowa Anamorphics, this promises to be a innovative and visually stunning creation.
Having set up Porcelain and Paper Productions this year with business partner and producer Sinead Griffin Lennon, Mab is Katie’s fifth and biggest production to date.
Beginning principal photography in early September, Mab has an incredible cast and crew lined up. “Porcelain and paper productions are a huge advocate for diversity within the film and television industry. We set up the company to help create better access for women and other under-represented communities. Mab’s cast and crew is made up of 50% male and 50% female creatives from various backgrounds and cultures, and that’s something we intend to encourage with every project” SineadGriffin Lennon explains.
Bonham continues: “With Mab, the story is richly layered to explore a far larger world and production values are higher: a larger cast and crew and using some of the best industry standard equipment to visually and aurally explore this complex collision of realism and fantasy. Mab is a proof of concept for a feature I am developing at the moment and will encompass the direction that I am going as a filmmaker. I can’t wait to get on set and work with a great team of creatives to introduce audiences to the world of Mab.”
Mab tells the story of Rosie, a poverty stricken teen, and her mother, Kris, who struggle to make ends meet. Their only source of income comes from the daily delivery Rosie makes to the mysterious Mab, but what are these deliveries and what impact will this have on their lives of those around them? A magical realism short that uncovers the sacrifices people make to take control of their lives and the evil that lurks in the darkness of desperation.

Naturally we’ll endeavour to get further word with Katie as the project nears completion.
