Frightfest London preview: The Sand Simon Fitzjohn August 16, 2015 Film4 Frightfest, London, London Previews 2315 Any film that references 1980 John Saxon schlock ‘classic’ Blood Beach gets an automatic thumbs-up in my book, so I’m more than happy that The Sand is popping up at Frightfest for its UK premiere. The feature directorial debut of props man Isaac Gabaeff, the film promises sun, sand – and hopefully plenty of bloodshed. Here’s the synopsis: After an all-night graduation beach party, a group of hungover students wake up under blazing sun to find their numbers somewhat depleted. An enormous alien creature has burrowed down deep and anyone foolish enough to make contact with the sand finds themselves at the mercy of a sea of flesh-eating tentacles. Will they ever be able to escape its carniverous clutches? The trailer wisely avoids giving the game away in terms of the creature effects, but does offer up enough carnage to get me interested. Scream legend Jamie Kennedy pops up as a beach patrol, with the likes of Mitchel Musso, Dean Geyer, Nikki Leigh and All Cheerleaders Die star Brooke Butler rounding out the cast. Here’s the trailer for the film that debuts in London on Friday, August 28:
