Frightfest Glasgow preview: Wyrmwood Simon Fitzjohn February 10, 2015 Film4 Frightfest, Glasgow, Glasgow Previews 2561 Any film that is billed as ‘Mad Max meets Dawn Of The Dead’ certainly gets my vote, which is why I’m all over Aussie zombie epic Wyrmwood. And that was before I saw the trailer, which only heightens expectations due to some great gore, laughs and oddball characters. Here’s the synopsis: A post-apocalyptic zombie invasion, caused by a wayward comet, turns personal for an Oz mechanic when his sister is abducted by a sinister team of gas-masked soldiers for flesh-eating experiments by a mad scientist. An absolutely astonishing and brilliant feature bow from Australian brother Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner, it’s the deadpan dead bloodbath everybody is talking about. Sporting MAD MAX-style designs, a glorious sense of humour, energetic execution, new and outrageous zombie lore and KC and the Sunshine Band, this super-fresh spin on a favourite genre is a raucous riot of black comedy, catastrophic carnage and over-the-top splatter. And here’s the trailer: Directed by Kiah Roache-Turner (who also penned the script), and starring the likes of Jay Gallagher and Bianca Bradey, Wyrmwood gets its UK premiere in Glasgow on February 27 at 6.30pm.
