Our very own Jason Statham seems to have settled into quite a groove lately, a groove that sees him churn out action flick after action flick with a twist.

That twist seems to be the gloss of high-profile (or at least competent-in-acting) supporting talent – think James Franco and Winona Ryder in Homefront, or Jennifer Lopez in Parker.

The Stath appears to be up to his tricks again in the upcoming Wild Card, having this time roped in the likes of Stanley Tucci and Sofia Vergara for the ride.

Here’s the synopsis:

“Nick Wild (Jason Statham) is a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal professional skills and a personal gambling problem. When a friend is beaten by a sadistic thug, Nick strikes back, only to find out the thug is the son of a powerful mob boss. Suddenly Nick is plunged into the criminal underworld, chased by enforcers and wanted by the mob. Having raised the stakes, Nick has one last play to change his fortunes…and this time, it’s all or nothing. From two-time Academy® Award-winning writer William Goldman (Best Original Screenplay, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, 1969; Best Adapted Screenplay, All the President’s Men, 1976).”

The film is directed by Simon West, who certainly proved his action credentials with the oh-so-enjoyable Con Air back in the day, and who has already teamed up with Statham on The Expendables 2.

Here’s the trailer for the film, which lands in UK cinemas on March 20.
