Coming across as an entertaining variant on the likes of The Bourne Identity, the first international trailer for The Gunman has landed online.

At first glance, the plot sounds pretty routine, but then you see the cast put together – Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba and plenty more – and the whole thing takes on an intriguing angle.

Adopted from a novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette, here’s the synopsis:

In THE GUNMAN, directed by Pierre Morel, Sean Penn stars as a former Special Forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD. He tries to reconnect with his long time love, but first must go on the run from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name.
