The chances are you’ve already seen the trailer for Star Wars The Force Awakens, but we’re still going to post it on here. With another 13 long months to go until the film’s release, this is our first taste of what is in store and as teaser trailers go, it hits all the right notes by merely whetting our appetites and not over doing it. Upon first viewing the trailer, I was reminded of how important the sound design is to the Star Wars series, so it’s real pleasure to hear the likes of the X-Wing engines, the TIE fighter roars and the Millennium Falcon soaring the skies. It’s also great to hear new music from John Williams. We’re given very little details on the plot and instead of re-introducing us to the the established faces of Luke, Han and Leia, we get very quick glimpses of the new characters portrayed by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac. All this is accompanied by a narration from one of the films characters. It sounds suspiciously like Benedict Cumberbatch, but whether it is him remains to be confirmed. In all likelihood, it could be either Adam Driver or Andy Serkis. Lightsaber with a crossguard We’re also treated to a shot of what appears to be the film’s villain, who is brandishing a pretty cool lightsaber featuring a crossguard. Some have already complained online about the health and safety complexities of such a weapon (seriously), but regardless of all that we think it looks pretty cool. The fact it’s got a pretty rough quality to it is quite neat too. As we mentioned when Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2012, it’s an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan and all the signs are pointing towards a real treat for us next year.
