OK, so it’s been a while since we sat through a Keanu Reeves film that hit some real heights (after all, the less said about the likes of 47 Ronin the better).

So let’s hope John Wick proves to be the answer, as this first trailer certainly delivers the goods when it comes to entertainment.

The story (actually done recently in the straight-to-DVD affair Revenge For Jolly) sees Reeves’ Wick as a retired hitman, rolling down his days until he becomes the victim of a break-in – a break-in that sees his beloved puppy killed.

That is enough to trigger a rampage of vengeance, which sees Wick shoot, punch and drive his way through a host of goons.

As well as showcasing some solid action, the trailer also suggests a nice streak of humour, which will be very welcome.

Alongside Reeves, the film also stars the likes of Willem Dafoe, Ian McShane and Adrianne Palicki, and is directed by stuntman turned director Chad Stahelski, who worked with the headline star on The Matrix back in the day.

John Wick is set for release on October 24.
