I suppose a festival wouldn’t be a festival without a found-footage flick turning up somewhere, so the London Film Festival have decided to throw in Spanish flick In Darkness We fall (La Cueva) for good measure. Coming across as a latin take on The Descent, the film follows a group of five thrill-seekers who rock up on a Mediterranean island, only for things to go horribly (and violently) wrong after they stumble across a cave complex. In Darkness We Fall is directed by Alfredo Montero, whose only previous film, Children, came way back in 2006. The likes of Marta Castellote, Xoel Fernandez and Eva Garcia-Vacas round out the cast, with the trailer looking as though it could deliver the goods, even if it does come with a side order of ‘haven’t I seen this before’. In Darkness We Fall screens at the festival on October 10 and 18.
