Frightfest 2014 Preview: Altergeist Simon Fitzjohn August 17, 2014 Film4 Frightfest 2766 I must admit, usually the words documentary crew and paranormal investigation in a film’s synopsis automatically put me on the defensive, as more often than not it suggests yet another in the seemingly endless cycle of found footage movies. But thankfully Altergeist doesn’t go down that route, despite indeed featuring documentary crew and paranormal investigation in its synopsis. The setting is King’s Ransom Winery, proudly billed as one of America’s most haunted locations, and the scene of a long history of bizarre suicides. Naturally this stirs up the interest of plenty of spook busters, with a crew of six electing to head to the winery for a full-blown investigation. Wouldn’t you know though, the group get much, much more than they bargained for….. Extra intrigue comes from the fact Altergeist is both written and directed by Ted Sarafian, who has scriptwriting duties for the likes of Tank Girl and Terminator 3 on his CV – although this marks his directorial debut. True Blood star Kristina Anapau heads up the cast, supported by the likes of Mark Hapka, David Weidoff and Linsey Godfrey. Altergeist gets its UK premiere at Frightfest on Monday, August 25.
