Using The Rapture as a launchpad for a slice of supernatural carnage, director Casey La Scala’s biblical horrorfest looks likely to provide plenty of in-your-face tension.

Set at the wedding of Skylar and Dan (Alexa Vega and Bryan Dechart respectively), all hell almost literally busts loose when huge chunks of the population suddenly drop dead (which can never be a good thing).

A group of survivors remain (including Vega and Texas Chainsaw 3D star Shaun Sipos), forced to try and get to the bottom of whether the Book of Revelations is coming to life, or something even more sinister…..

Vega has come a long way since her Spy Kids days, with an eye-catching appearance in the recent Machete Kills, so it will be interesting to see how she morphs into a horror lead.

There’s little to go on as far as director La Scala’s talent goes, with the yet-to-be-released El Remanente (which features a chunk of the same cast) and 2003 skateboard movie Grind his only other work, although he did exec-produce Donnie Darko.

The trailer looks solid entertainment though, with The Remaining screening at the festival on Monday, August 25.
