Frightfest 2014 Preview: Among The Living Simon Fitzjohn July 11, 2014 Film4 Frightfest 1766 It is fair to say, with the likes of Inside and Livid, that French writer/director duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have already made a splash in the horror genre. Well now they are back, promising us ‘their most intense nightmare to date’. Among The Living follows a trio of school kids, who decide to leave class early on their last day before the summer break and head into the countryside. Their plan is to indulge in some petty crime, but things become a whole lot more complicated (and sinister) when they stumble across an abandoned film studio, complete with a masked maniac, a kidnapped woman and an underground lair. Naturally nobody believes them when the three recount their tale, only for the maniac to decide that he will track the kids down, hoping to silence them forever…… Theo Fernandez, Zacharie Chasseriad and Damien Ferdel take on the roles of kids Victor, Tom and Dan, while Maury/Bustillo favourite Beatrice Dalle also pops up. The only trailer we’ve seen (which we’ve included below) is in its original language (French), but there’s more than enough impressive imagery to get us interested in this one. Among The Living screens at Frightfest on Sunday, August 24.
