It is Halloween after all, so what better time for Hammer Films to unleash the first trailer for the 2014 shocker, The Quiet Ones?

Set back in 1974, the film follows an unorthodox Oxford University professor (played by Jared Harris), who sets his students an interesting coursework project – to create a poltergeist.

Naturally this can only lead to bad things, and before too long we get plenty of frightening occurences, shocking events and gruesome consequences.

Harris is joined by the likes of Sam Claflin and Olivia Cooke, with the film being directed by John Pogue, whose only previous helming experience came on so-so virus chiller Quarantine 2.

The studios are no doubt hoping The Quiet Ones will follow in the sinister footsteps of box-office smash The Woman In Black, and the trailer suggests another tense, well-acted slice of British horror.

The Quiet Ones is set to hit cinemas in April next year.
