Opinion: Who should play Lex Luthor? Colin D Miller August 15, 2013 Features, Opinion 3767 [one_half] The biggest news to come out of Comic Con this year was arguably Zack Snyder revealing that the sequel to Man of Steel will feature the Dark Knight. With many names being mooted for who should be playing Batman, that hasn’t really shifted focus on who should play Lex Luthor. While the characters return is far from confirmed, considering the amount of Lexcorp shaped Easter eggs in Man of Steel it’s a safe bet that he will crop up somewhere. What is clear is that this version of Lex Luthor is a more successful, politically powerful and respectable. [/one_half] [one_half_last] Unlike the Lex Luthor in Richard Donner’s films who lived underground and surrounded himself with bumbling idiots, the character in Zack Snyder’s universe is clearly very rich and presumably quite influential. Of course this is all guess work, but neglecting to include Kal-El’s biggest Earth nemesis would be a criminal thing to do. With the rumours in recent weeks of several actors voicing their eagerness for the role, we’ve compiled a list of who we’d like to see shave their heads and have a battle of wits against Superman. [/one_half_last] [one_half] Mark Strong A clear favourite for many people. Mark Strong has already proved his villainous credentials in many films, including Stardust, John Carter, Sherlock Holmes and Kick Ass. When asked about the role by Digital Spy, he simply said “watch this space”. We’re watching Mark. [/one_half] [one_half_last] Mark Strong [/one_half_last] [one_half] Brian Cranston Riding high on the success of both the Oscar winning Argo and the seminal TV series Breaking Bad, Brian Cranston’s name is a new but fairly popular choice. When asked by The Metro on his thoughts of the role, he said “Give me a call. I like Lex Luthor. I think he’s misunderstood. He’s a loveable, sweet man.” [/one_half] [one_half_last]Brian Cranston[/one_half_last] [one_half] Johnny Depp It’s unlikely to ever happen for various reasons, but Johnny Depp would certainly make an interesting choice for Lex Luthor. He certainly has the charm and the range to play the charismatic business man. It would also be a welcome change to see him play a villain instead of one of the good guys. [/one_half] [one_half_last] Johnny Depp [/one_half_last] [one_half] Jason Isaacs Having played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series there is already some history there between him and Warner Brothers. Again, he has all the charisma to play a character like Lex Luthor. [/one_half] [one_half_last] Jason Isaacs [/one_half_last] [one_half] Stanley Tucci Having already hammed it up in Bryan Singers Jack The Giant Slayer, Tucci has already shown that he pretty capable of being the campy villain of the piece. However, his slate for 2014 is pretty full, so it’s unlikely. [/one_half] [one_half_last] Stanley Tucci [/one_half_last] Who would you like to see play Lex Luthor? Leave a comment below.
