The Outpost films have become a bit of a Frightfest tradition, so it seems only right that this third instalment will play at the London horror shindig.

Tracing things back to the origins of the Nazi zombie menace, this entry has been billed by the makers as the goriest and most violent of the series, so that’s something to look forward to.

Set on the Eastern Front in 1945, things get very messy when a group of elite Russian special forces ambush a German convoy, leading to the discovery of some sinister Nazi experiments.

Before long we are back to dingy lab territory, with the trailer throwing up the usual mix of warfare carnage and zombie menace.

Directed by Kieran Parker, who served as producer on the first two Outpost movies, this third edition stars Bryan Larkin as Dolokhov, one of the chief members of the Russian Spetsnaz.

Outpost 3: Rise Of The Spetsnaz screens at Frightfest on Sunday, August 25.
