Promising to bring something a little different to the Frightfest party, Cheap Thrills marks the directorial debut of EL Katz, writer of both Autopsy and Pop Skull.

A sort of ‘You Bet’ with added bloodshed, the film tells the tale of Craig (Pat Healy), a down-on-his-luck type who has just been fired from his job, along with facing eviction and having to care for a wife and newborn baby.

Drinking away his troubles in a local bar, Craig happens upon an old friend, Vince, and they hook up with a wealthy married couple out for a good time.

That all seems fairly innocent enough, but before long the couple start offering major cash if Craig and Vince start accepting bets – and not all of the things they will be asked to do are legal……

The film also stars Sara Paxton, who teamed up with Healy to great effect in Ti West’s The Innkeepers, as well as Ethan Embry and Anchorman star David Koechner.

Cheap Thrills screens at Frightfest on Saturday, August 24.
