With the US release of The Evil Dead remake today, we thought we’d take a look back at where it all began with Sam Raimi’s short film Within The Woods.

Shot on the old super 8 cameras with a budget of $1600, Within The Woods was directed by Sam Raimi and starred Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Mary Valenti and Scott Spiegel.

Within The Woods became a minor success after a cinema in Detroit screened the film before The Rocky Horror Show. After an encouraging reception and some positive reviews, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert decided to pursue various investors for funds to craft a much finer production.

And the rest is history.

This week’s Production Photograph is taken from the shoot and features a fresh faced Sam Raimi and a not so fresh faced Bruce Campbell.
