A slice of big-budget action nonsense never goes amiss, and boy does Olympus Has Fallen look as though it fits that bill.

Gerard Butler stars as Mike Banning, a disgraced Secret Service agent who has to step in and try to save the day after the US President is targeted by heavily armed extremists.

Butler is surrounded by a quality cast, including Aaron Eckhart as the President and Morgan Freeman as the acting president, while behind the camera is Antoine Fuqua.

It might not be anything truly original, but let’s hope for some big-screen carnage when the film hits cinemas on April 17.
