News: Hammer’s Dracula gets lavish re-release Simon Fitzjohn January 15, 2013 Latest News and Videos 2099 When it comes to Hammer classics, 1958’s Dracula may not exactly be head and fangs above the rest, but it is probably the most iconic. After all, the legendary Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing showdown went on to spawn a host of sequels, as well as providing Lee with an on-screen persona that still resonates to this day. Well, lovers of the vampire hit are in for a huge treat on March 18 when Hammer, Icon Film Distribution and Lionsgate join forces to unleash a stunning 3-disc set. Offering up recently-found footage, new documentaries and a host of other extras, this release is sure to provoke major buzz from horror fans (including myself). The set, which contains one Blu-Ray and two DVDs, will feature both the 2007 BFI restoration as well as the all-new 2012 Hammer edit, which contains two scenes rescued from Japanese reels that were previously censored on British shores. The extras includes input from the likes of Kim Newman, Jimmy Sangster and Mark Gatiss, as well as stills, commentaries, four brand-new featurettes, premiere footage and a whole lot more. Better start counting our pennies…….
