I think it’s fair to say the first trailer for this fantasy reimagining got a lukewarm response, so quite wisely the makers of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters have elected to throw caution to the wind with a more full-on offering.

Upping the carnage, the flick looks as though it could be a lot of fun, although I can’t get the thoughts of the misfiring Matt Damon effort The Brothers Grimm or Hugh Jackman’s crapfest Van Helsing out of my head.

Having said that, I’m pretty happy to sit through most Gemma Arterton films, and Jeremy Renner has really proved his action chops recently with the likes of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy.

Directed by Tommy Wirkola, who brought us the immensely enjoyable Nazi romp Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters also stars the likes of Peter Stormare and hits cinemas in March 2013.
