Controversial French director Pascal Laugier returns to Frightfest with his latest flick.

Having unleashed (or should that be inflicted?) the truly disturbing Martyrs onto the world back in 2008, Laugier has gone all Hollywood with The Tall Man, that stars Jessica Biel no less.

Biel has dabbled in horror before of course (with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and to a much lesser extent Blade: Trinity) and here she plays a smalltown nurse in the Canadian town of Cold Rock.

Trouble is, kids keep disappearing from the town, supposedly taken by ‘The Tall Man’.

Before long, Julia (Biel) finds the legend hitting very close to home, forcing her on a journey into darkness in this well-constructed chiller.

The likes of Steven McHattie and Jodelle Ferland appear alongside Biel, with the added bonus for fans being the fact that director Laugier will be on hand for a special Q & A after the screening.

The Tall Man plays at Frightfest Halloween on October 27.
